July 26, 2020 marked the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was created to prohibit discrimination against and ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities. Under the ADA, disabilities are considered physical or mental impairments that substantially limit one or more major life activities, and these impairments can be wide ranging. Societal progress is ongoing, and the experiences of people with disabilities in the past 30 years have varied. We've compiled a list of books that center these experiences (or represent them in fiction) and offer perspectives on the ADA's past, present, and future.
