We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children up to five years old and their families.
Outdoor Storytime is back! Beginning April 18, join Youth Services staff every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. on the courtyard lawn of Princeton Shopping Center (weather permitting) for an interactive storytime featuring books, songs, rhymes and movement for children of all ages with their adult caregivers. Be sure to bring a blanket or a large beach towel to sit on. No registration is required, but participants are encouraged to check the library’s website before arriving in case we have to cancel due to inclement weather.
Join us on Wednesday, April 5 at 3 p.m. in the library’s first-floor Community Room with Princeton Symphony Orchestra Bravo! Percussion Trio. This fun, interactive and educational program introduces kids of all ages and their families to the wide-ranging group of instruments that make up the percussion family. From ragtime to opera, this program will delight young audiences and inspire them to experience all sorts of music. All ages are invited and no registration is required.
Celebrate Earth Day and National Poetry Month with award-winning picture book author and poet Katey Howes on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the library’s third-floor Story Room. Howes will read from her two newest picture books, “A Poem Grows Inside You” and “Woven of the World,” followed by hands-on themed activities related to Earth Day, connecting with nature and upcycling materials. All children age 2 and up and their adult caregivers are invited to attend. No registration is required.

Outdoor activities include crafting and other Earth Day-themed activities, including an Outdoor Storytime at 1 p.m. In honor of Earth Day, be sure to also check out our staff-curated booklist featuring Earth Day Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers.
Poetry Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Celebrate National Poetry Month with your little one this April by sharing books from our Youth Services staff-curated list featuring poetry for the very young. Whether it’s silly nonsense poems, soothing lullabies, familiar nursery rhymes, or exquisite haikus, it’s never too early to nurture the beginnings of a lifelong love of poetry.
