August top 5 for under 5 – 2021

We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children up to five years old and their families.

Summer Nights Series: Raya and the Last Dragon
Presented in partnership with Princeton Shopping Center, this Summer Reading wrap-up event begins with an evening of fun family activities, cool giveaways and more, and ends with a screening of Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon” on the shopping center’s courtyard lawn. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and grab dinner or a snack from one of the many food vendors available. Family activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at approximately 8:15 p.m. In the event of rain, this event will be rescheduled.

Outdoor Storytime
In-person storytime is back. Join Youth Services staff every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. on the courtyard lawn of Princeton Shopping Center (weather permitting) for an interactive storytime featuring books, songs, rhymes, and movement for kids ages 18 months and older with their accompanying caregivers. Be sure to bring a blanket or large beach towel to sit on. No registration is required, but participants are encouraged to check the library’s website before arriving in case we have to cancel due to inclement weather.

Little Panda Storytime
The library has partnered with Ying-Hua International School to bring back Storytime in Mandarin Chinese, this time in a virtual setting. Guest readers from Ying-Hua share stories in Mandarin Chinese intended for kids ages 3 and up, depending on Chinese proficiency.

Zonia’s Rainforest by Juana Martinez-Neal
Meet Zonia, an Asháninka girl, and all her animal friends living in the lush Peruvian Amazon rainforest, in this vibrantly illustrated picture book that makes a strong introduction to rainforests and environmentalism for young children. Read along with us as we share this beautiful book during “Storytime Shorts.

Roar: A Book Of Animal Sounds by Katerina Kerouli
Striped, scaly, furry, loud — the animals in this fun new picture book make BIG sounds! Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers will delight in lifting the flaps to reveal each animal’s loud roars, hisses, growls, and more.
