We invite you to check out this month’s PPL Youth Services recommendations for activities, resources and new books in the library collection for children ages up to five years old and their families.
With the arrival of colder weather, in-person storytime returns indoors in the library beginning Thursday, Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. and continuing every Thursday morning throughout December. This interactive storytime features books, songs, rhymes, fingerplays and movement for children 2 years and up with parent or adult caregiver. For everyone’s safety, masks are required for everyone age 2 and up. Participation is limited to 20 families, so please register in advance. Registration will open every Monday at 10 a.m. for that week’s Thursday storytime session.
The Gift of Books 2021: Books for Younger Children
There isn’t a more perfect gift for a young child (or anyone) than a book. Be sure to check out our list of recommended picture books, early readers and early chapter books published in 2021 that not only are available for checkout from the library, but would also each make a special gift for building a child’s own home library.
Skating On the Square in Palmer Square in downtown Princeton is back. The eco-friendly outdoor skating rink is located on Hulfish Street behind the Nassau Inn until Feb. 27. The hours are Thursday – Friday, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. & 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Social distancing and masks are required. All ages are welcome and the younger you are, the less distance to fall while you learn to skate.
Festival of Trees at Morven Museum and Gardens
Visit Morven for the time-honored holiday exhibition, Festival of Trees, which runs now until Jan. 9. After viewing the collection of ornamental trees and mantels displayed throughout the museum’s galleries, visitors can vote for their favorite holiday display. While there, be sure to find the library’s mantel display inspired by the classic winter tale “The Mitten” by Jan Brett.
Best Model Train Shows In New Jersey For Families
If you have a young train enthusiast in your family, be sure to check out the recent article on Mommy Poppins featuring the best holiday model train shows in New Jersey for families. It lists several train show destinations relatively close to the Princeton area. Favorites include the Barron Arts Center’s Holiday Model Train Show in Woodbridge, which runs now until Dec. 30th, and Northlandz Model Train Museum in Flemington and their Holiday Train with Santa, which runs now until Jan. 2.
