Meet Leticia Braga, our customer service guru from overseas. On any given day, you might hear her chatting in Portuguese with customers at the Check Out Desk. Cheerful and curious, she brings out the best in her Lending Service co-workers.
Q: How long have you worked at the Princeton Public Library?
A: Over two years, first as a shelver and then as a Library Assistant. This is my first job in the U. S. and it’s the best job I’ve ever had. The people who work here and the people who come to the library are amazing.
Q: What do you like best about working in Lending Services?
A: In my opinion, Lending Services is the heart of the library. I love the interactions with customers. We are always busy.
Q: What are libraries like in Brazil?
A: I’m from Sao Paulo, and to be honest, I don’t think there is the same library culture in Brazil. We don’t grow up going to libraries regularly. I really wish this had been part of my childhood.
Q: You are an impressive surfer. What is your favorite surfing spot in New Jersey?
A: I’m sorry, but I can not reveal my secret surfing spot! It has been so crowded lately. The only thing I can say that it is close to Asbury Park.
Q: How does surfing in New Jersey compare to surfing in Brazil?
A: The waves in Brazil are more consistant and the water is not as cold in the winter. I started to catch waves more than 20 years ago, and I used to be on the water every week. But here it is not possible in the winter. My husband and I really enjoy the surfing community here. We have met a nice group of people that, just like us, loves the waves and wants to enjoy the nature, especially the ocean.
Q: What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
A: I’m addicted to audio books. Two great ones are “The Help” by Kathyrn Stockett and “Room” by Emma Donoghue.
Thanks, Leticia!
